‘Lorne – Market Round up’. When we sat in the Fred Flanagan room at the Geelong Football Club listening to Westpac chief economist Bill Evans painting his economic forecast to the future, there was one major factor that he stressed needed change – consumer confidence! Well according to today’s press the Westpac/Melbourne institute of Consumer Sentiment rose 6.3% in November to 103.4 points. This is the first time it has gone into positive territory since June this year. The 25 basis point interest reduction was the single biggest contributor to the increase.

Buyers continue to be active in their search for property and what continues to be the trend is that stock which is priced to current market conditions is still being viewed while property that is not is going unnoticed.

All eyes will be on the Melbourne Cup next Tuesday but not only because of the horses – The Reserve Bank will meet to confirm its position on home interest rates and the recently announced inflation figures has borrowers buzzing with anticipation. ‘Lorne – Market round up’. Some interesting data has just come out from R. P. Data with the rental yields from houses in Melbourne at 3.7%, the lowest in Australia.
