Our Backyard

Happy New Year! 2020 is well and truly underway with the catastrophic wild fires burning out of control in northern coastal Victoria and New South Wales dominating all major news bulletins. The tragic loss of life and huge volume of residential home loss, in excess of 1,000, paints one of the darkest periods in Australian wild fire history. To hear that a number of these fires have been deliberately lit goes beyond comprehension and would fail to find penalties severe enough for the offenders.

In high risk wild fire areas, just like here in the Otways, we are always exposed to the dangers but when human intervention is responsible for the cause – what can you say!

We can only think and pray for those in the fire grounds as the conditions are forecast to be at their very worst over the coming days.

Residents and visitors to the Otways must, as always, continue to be diligent and fully aware of the risks to which we are exposed.

Christmas / New Year is a great time for celebration and traditionally its only later in the first week of the New Year that the last bottles of champagne crash into the recycle bin and the crystal glassware given a well-earned break. A more normal life pattern begins to return and all of a sudden real estate comes back on the agenda, or so we are hoping! With mid-week interest producing multiple buyer inspections, we are looking forward to reporting our first transactions for the year in the coming week.

Kind regards,

A week is a long time on the coast! This time seven days ago you were reading how to navigate the forecasted heavy traffic congestion around the Falls Festival. That was only days before the mass evacuation of the site following only one nights entertainment. And I must say from a third-party observer the last minute decision appeared to be executed with precision and in a very orderly organised manner.

“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go, they merely determine where you start”.
