Our Backyard

My oh my, Anzac Day has crept up on us so quickly given what else has been going on around the world. With Easter 2020 being non-existent, school holidays that just didn’t happen and parents teaching their children from home, the coastal landscape has never looked so barren – bad and yet good! Because of the social distancing disciplines, there will be no local service for the public at our cenotaph. Instead everyone is being urged to hold a candle at the end of their driveway at 6:00am. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the Australian War Memorial will hold a private, nationally televised Anzac Day commemorative service.

Australians have been invited to take part in an incredible social movement called Driveway at 5:55am on Anzac Day morning. An app has been released on both android and Apple that will burn a virtual candle and synchronised playing of the Last Post at precisely 6am for those that want something formal.

As we expected another quiet week of real estate inquiry on the coast albeit that when we do get enquiry it has certainly been from buyers who have been genuinely motivated to purchase on the coast. Our sale for the week in Lorne was the lovely older style residence on a block of just over 1,000 sq metres at 4 Neade Street. The three-bedroom residence had been held in the family for generations who had preserved so well the lovely feel of “old Lorne”.

As Australians push to flatten the Corona virus curve, it seems to be having an impact but we can’t afford to be too complacent or we will end up in a similar situation to Singapore. It does however start to present a glimmer of hope that just maybe our ‘stay at home’ and social distancing disciplines may be eased ever so slightly. Another good sign is that ever since the Australian Government support announcements of Job keeper, Job seeker and Business support, consumer confidence, according to Roy Morgan Research has strengthened for the third successive week. We still have a long road in front and continued diligence is certain to provide the quickest route!

For those that are unaware, unfortunately there will be no Anzac Day memorial service in Lorne this year given the stay at home and social distancing regulations, so be sure to follow the live service on free to air T.V.
