Our Backyard

Only a week until the opening performance of the Lorne Festival of Performing Arts and with the Gala Friday a sell-out this is shaping to be the best festival yet. Visit fopa.com.au to secure your tickets for one of the biggest weekends in Lorne.

Don’t forget whether its next weeks festival or anytime before or after you need to plan your journey as Lorne’s only service station is undergoing a major make over as it rebrands from BP to Shell. Riordan Fuels are hopeful that the bowsers will be back in operation prior to the big Amy’s Gran Fondo weekend – stay tuned!

Local sports sees our senior netball and footballers still alive in the CDFL 2016 finals series playing in elimination finals against Birregurra and Simpson respectively on Sunday at Colac’s Central Reserve.

On another note, Lorne junior footballers scooped the pool with Simon Umbers and Oscar Coutts winning the CDFL U/14 and U/17 league best and fairest awards – mighty effort by the junior Dolphins. Especially the win of Oscar being able to achieve an award that his highly decorated footballing father and Great Ocean Road Real Estate Director Michael Coutts does not have in his trophy cabinet!!

Hard to believe that this blog will be the last written for the winter of 2016 and next week the first week of spring! History tells us, that just like the Melbourne market, our local lifestyle sector also comes out of hibernation.

The early indicators are good on the back of the $2 million plus sale that was reported last week and the in-house auction on Saturday passed. The vacant one acre allotment at 1188 Great Ocean Road was sold under the hammer for $362,000. Three active bidders were spirited placing 43 bids before the hammer went down concluding the sale well in excess of the reserve price.

There is one early trend that is very evident in that stock levels are as low as any corresponding year of the past five. The pendulum has well and truly swung back from being a buyers market to more of a balanced market and if the forces of demand and supply continue sellers may be in for a more buoyant time in the next five years than what they experienced in the past five – a great time to be in the market!

Open houses this weekend

Saturday and Sunday

12:00 – 12:30pm               10 Waverley Avenue, Lorne

Just listed is a three bedroom, two bathroom apartment in the Grand Pacific Apartment complex. Representing great value being listed at $650,000 this is certain to attract interest, so speak to one of our team at your earliest convenience if a “value apartment” is what you are looking for.

Did you know that Australia’s natural population increase in the past twelve months was 149,000 with 305,400 births outnumbering the 156,400 deaths. I wonder what the 2016 census will tell us about Lorne – that is if they ever get it finished.

See you in Our Backyard.
