Our Backyard

A huge weekend in town last weekend with the Melbourne Cup holiday bringing numbers back to the coast and reinforcement that summer is not far away. Our open for inspections were all well attended and real estate enquiry from both buyers and sellers well and truly on the increase.

It always interests me how vendors look to select their agent when they make the decision to sell and I have just completed that same process with an asset I have been fortunate to occupy over the past 10 plus years in Geelong.

What surprised me is the lengths that as some agents will go to, in an endeavour to secure your business, at whatever cost that may be. With my recent experience after an ongoing dialogue with a young up and coming Newtown agent looking to “own a patch”, I was offered his services at zero commission to sell our Geelong property! What would you do, what would a thirty year plus estate agent do? Well for me it was easy, I would never expect an individual to work for no reward (or even little reward), let alone believe that any person could best represent my interest to the fullest when they fall short with their own pay cheque negotiations.

With the buzz of the “Cup Weekend” came a sprinkling of transactions to reinforce the optimism we share for the times ahead. Two further sales within the former Erskine Falls Cottages development and a contract on a three bedroom apartment in the Chalet rounded out the week. The Lorne Chalet “Mirvac Development” continues to be supported as one of Lorne’s most sought after residential complexes. After going some months without having an apartment available in the complex, the three bedroom offering lasted less than a fortnight on the market before selling at its full asking price of $795,000. Some great early signs in our market for our peak selling months ahead.

A truly stunning coastal renovation, those wanting pole position within the Lorne hub take note! Fully furnished, multi-generational family living is exemplified in this modern knockout! Boasting an open plan kitchen, living and dining area with sleek chef’s kitchen and vast use of floor to ceiling glass, all opening to expansive deck, capturing a blue water treat! 4 bedrooms, (master with WIR, ensuite and study nook), 3 bathrooms, 2 living spaces, 3 outdoor entertaining zones, lock up garage, landscaped gardens. Please call one of our team for further details.

At a Lorne function last Saturday night to celebrate Jan and Peter Spring as recipients of the Doug and Mary Stirling community cup for their outstanding contribution to the Lorne Community, I was privileged to present a recognition award to a young local girl Mila Guerro, who at age 11 was recognised for her bravery earlier this year when she used her skills learnt from the Lorne S.L.S.C. nipper program for recuing two Japanese tourists from the surf on the Lorne Beach – a super effort Mila!
