Our Backyard

I’m sure there are many that are interested to continue to follow the progress of the Point Grey Precinct and following the recent announcement of the competition winning architects and project manager. The Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) in its ongoing design consultation process is hosting a series of open homes, online surveys and listening posts both in Lorne (on two occasions) and Melbourne through July and August. Saturday 14 July 9am – 3pm and Saturday 11 August 9am – 12pm at the Lorne Community House and in Melbourne on Wednesday 18 July 4pm – 6pm at 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne.

Furthermore, GORCC in consultation with Lorne Community Groups have initiated a piece of work to compliment the design which centers around how space can be activated with historic interpretation and linked back to the township. As a result, GORCC have formed a small creative community counsel with representation from Lorne Sculpture Biennale, Committee for Lorne, Lorne Business Tourism and Traders Association and the Lorne Historical Society – stay tuned.

Only recently I wrote about the ups and downs of various markets along the coast and how they were each so different and performed at varying paces at different times of the year. Our Apollo Bay office shone brightly a fortnight ago and has begun the new financial year even stronger coming out of the blocks with four contracted deals in the last seven days – a super achievement in the middle month of winter! In Lorne here, the opposite has occurred as we have failed to “trouble the scorer” over the past week. But don’t worry the news is not all bad with a couple of big negotiations rearing contract stage and I look forward to sharing with you next week – fingers crossed!

The school holidays have pushed excellent numbers into Lorne and our buyer enquiry has been solid leading the negotiations which are underway.

Happy New Financial Year to you all and I look forward to sharing the statistical summary of 2017/2018 with you over the coming weeks.
