Our Backyard

2018 – The year of the Dolphin. Yes, the Lorne senior football team secured the Colac and District Football League 2018 Premiership in delivering Birregurra only its second loss for the entire season. Going into the big game, Birregurra were the raging favorites having handed the local boys three comprehensive defeats through the season, but the “underdogs” tag sat well with the Dolphins as they played their best four quarters of the year and did what many thought they couldn’t. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the same for our reserve grade footballers who went down to the Simpson Football Club in atrocious conditions.

The past season has been a great year for the Lorne Football and Netball Club both on and off the field and to cap it off with a Premiership was the icing on the cake!

Not only is it the Preliminary Final weekend but it’s the start of the last term school holidays, the Melbourne Show and most importantly the “awakening” of the coast and the first real signal that summer is fast approaching. With all of this comes the discussion of real estate and the most frequently asked question – How’s the market? Especially from clients from Melbourne – and it’s a good question as both of these markets are so very different. We’ve all heard the media reports how the market in the “big smoke” has come off the boil as to where it was 12 and 18 months ago, the Geelong property market is still going gang busters and Lorne is no different – so where to from here?

We are forecasting the local trend to continue on the back of our low stock levels and Lorne coming off such a low base from 2016. While most Australian markets have shown significant growth since 2009, Lorne didn’t, so we are all well poised to “make up ground” over the ensuing years.

A busy week in Lorne with a “sprinkling” of new properties coming onto the market, the contracting at full price of the Holiday Road residence (lasting less than 7 days on the market) and a couple of other negotiations underway.

Saturday 22nd September

12:00pm – 12:30pm 18 Dorman Street, Lorne

For those that know the Lorne property market well it probably comes as no surprise to hear us that activity has been as strong as at any time since the Global Financial Crisis in 2009. Transactions are being completed within days of properties being listed for sale and a number of “off market” transactions are also taking place. A great time to be “in the Lorne market”.
