This time of year, I just love having friends come and stay and enjoy some time on the coast, relaxing & appreciating our stunning environment. I also really love spending that quality time together and at the end of the day when I get home from work, they have prepared a delicious meal and hand me a chilled beverage. As we all sat around enjoying each others company on New Years Eve, we couldn’t help but talk about how grateful we are for what we have, in amongst feeling helpless for so many people in crisis with the bushfires (and other disasters in the world)
It’s a tragedy what is going on in our country & state of Victoria but again you have to commend all the emergency services that are providing support and incredible communication to keep people safe. When you live in a rural environment you have to be aware of risks and have a plan in place. I’m quite shocked at the amount of people that headed to coastal towns in NSW and Victorian Border after the NSW minister asked people to make alternative plans, prior to Christmas. I think most people are just unaware of how these fires are behaving like they never have before, its unprecedented conditions. These fierce fires have actually created their own weather system and as a result Victoria has now been declared a State of Disaster. It is absolutely crucial to follow instructions of the government & services and also understand how quickly things can change.
Whist it’s a sombre beginning to the year, feeling such a sense of loss for people, animals & our beautiful trees, we just have to take time out to appreciate what we have. I had my beautiful mum in hospital just days before Christmas and couldn’t have felt more lucky to have spent the day with her, particularly enjoying the afternoon on the beach with our feet in the water, holding hands and understanding these special moments are precious.
Have a lovely weekend, stay safe and may the year ahead deliver peace, love and happiness your way.
