Our Backyard – Lorne

Not that you’d think but summer is officially upon us and December not only brings the downhill run to Christmas but also “rush month”. A month that the town of Lorne, and everyone in it, is frantic preparing for the busy period ahead. Whether its our local businesses busily unpacking and stacking summer stock and training new team members or tradies completing those last-minute works for our summer arrivals, life on the coast is really gearing up as our city counterpart see their Christmas vacation in sight.

Lorne is looking good, not that it never doesn’t, and what we offer never ceases to amaze given our relatively small population base.

Look at a snap shot of the last six months where MoVida took the 2019 Australian Hotels Association award for best Pub Restaurant and also took out Savour Australia’s best new restaurant award. Add to this Lorne’s recipient of the RACV’s best new Tourism Business Award – Live Wire Park and soon you realise why many see us “batting above our weight”. That’s without even considering the natural beauty of the environment where we are so lucky to live and all the other local services that are so special to Lorne.

I have been interested to read that the Sydney and Melbourne property market have driven the biggest monthly lift in national house prices in 16 years, as falling interest rates and a shortage of supply combine to drive up values. Core Logics monthly measure of values showed dwelling values across the nation’s capitals jumped by 1.7% in November, the biggest monthly lift since 2003.

If history repeats in being a good indicator in our local market, then the “ripple effect” is not likely to be too far away. The financial experts are contributing the short-term surge down to stock levels and low interest rates all of which are equally prevailed in our Lorne market. Having seen two solid sales on the Deans Marsh Road this week over a million dollars, that “first ripple” may have already arrived – let’s hope so!

In this blog of months gone by we have drawn your attention to the potential road closures at Moggs Creek with the pending replacement of the bridge. With original dates being scrapped all we know is that there will be no interruptions through the January period. But what we don’t know is when the replacement works will proceed – but we will find out!’
